@ Joe - Those are some AWESOME questions to ask yourself when approaching a challenge that you've aimed to conquer. Asking yourself the questions you've listed here makes sure that you're always taking calculated action, which leads to much greater efficiency when tackling the challenge at hand.

Thank you for sharing this tip with me and the readers, and thanks for the compliment!

@ Nathalie - I'm so glad you found the article helpful and accurate :) Please do continue to stop by and contribute to the discussion. Thanks for the comment and compliment!

Fantastic stuff my friend! Without passion for what we want we can accomplish nothing. I can't put my finger on it, but I think it was a Tony Robbins CD I got some great suggestions from.

Upon encountering an issue big or large always ask yourself these 5 questions.

-What could be great about this?
-What is not perfect yet?
-What am I willing to do to make it the way I want it?
-What am I willing to no longer do to achieve what I want?
-What can I do to accomplish this and enjoy the process?

As I go through the steps you have laid out, I find these questions useful upon coming up on obstacles the may pop up from time to time.

Have a great trip!

Hi Rahul, an awesome article, especially I am interested in :
- the first point about burning desire. Without burning desire our dream are just a dream.
- the sixth point about apply your understanding. Many people are lack of action because they are fear to make mistakes.
- the seventh point about teach others what you have learned, because it is the best way to be an expert in something.
I like your thoughts, Rahul.

Great article and excellent follow up and comments everyone! Love the points about having a passion (burning desire) or whatever you want to call it based on things you have true meaning with. If that exists, the (you may call them optional or not) extra steps outlined here fall into place much more naturally.

Well written and useful content Rahul! Have a great holiday season and Merry Christmas!

Rahul-

Your insight is dead on when it comes to conquering challenges. This post reminds me quite a bit of an article I read in Ode Magazine about "The Power of Intention" and how Muhammad Ali use this technique to overcome some of his toughest challenges. http://www.odemagazine.com/doc/40/the_power_of_intention

It involved using verbal and mental intentions or visualizations to foresee the outcome he wanted and then work to make that happen. The trick was that in his head he had already won -already succeeded.

Here's a fascinating and very useful excerpt from that article -
"Research with another machine, the electroencephalogram (EEG), has shown that the electrical activity produced by the brain is identical, whether we’re thinking about doing something or actually doing it. In weightlifters, for instance, EEG patterns in the brain that would be activated to lift several hundred pounds are also activated by simply imagining lifting that weight. Just the thought is enough to produce the neural instructions to carry out the physical act."

How's that for food for thought?

You've broken down things further by outlining specific steps to achieving similar results. Tie this in with the fact that creating a burning desire for success and seeing the outcome in your mind before it happens will actually evoke the butterfly effect and cause you to do things and think in a certain way that will allow you to overcome challenges and reach your goals, makes for sound and actionable advice.

Thanks for sharing your methods and insights - as always it's a pleasure to read (and learn from) your posts!

@ Bunny - I agree, it is his responsibility to make the most out of his situation. I'm pretty sure if something like that happened to me I'd be devastated at first, but then it would just fuel my burning desire for success furthermore.

That's awesome that you've made a list of exactly what you want from the man you're with. It's absolutely necessary to know what you're looking for down to the tee otherwise you'll end up settling, and that leads to problems later on in the relationship.

My girlfriend also said that I deal with our relationship like a business deal! Haha, I guess that's a good thing right? We expect certain things from our partners, and they expect certain things also. By laying it all out on the table before the relationship gets started, everybody is clear about what's expected of them.

@ Relax - Thanks for stopping by! You make some great points, and in your examples you're right, a burning desire for success isn't necessary. As you've illustrated, some challenges can be successfully conquered without a burning desire for success, because something else can take desire's place (just having fun, consistency over a long period of time). However, I've found in my experience that this burning desire only makes things easier, and I'm convinced that it is necessary to tackle the toughest of challenges.

This step is optional, as you said. Actually, all of the steps listed here are optional. However, by applying all of them on your quest to conquer challenges, they have a synergistic effect and it's that much easier and effective.

@ Ian - I love the points you've added here! I agree that it's important to know which values you're satisfying when pursuing a particular challenge. This way you'll always be sure you're committing "right" action.

The concept of overwhelming force isn't really related to "force" as much as it is to power. Force implies that you're doing something against your will, while power implies that you're using your capacities willingly to blow through any obstacles. I've always found the application of overwhelming "force" to be extremely useful when tackling tough challenges, because it totally immerses me in the learning process and I conquer the challenge quickly and efficiently.

Yes, I have found the girl of my dreams, and I know that it wouldn't have been possible if I didn't take the time to learn the concepts I did. I agree with you of course that being fake will only lead to problems later on, and I believe that the most powerful attraction is sparked when a person is completely authentic. This is the approach I've used, and it's worked really well for me!

Thanks for all of the excellent comments all! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Rahul ... Not that I will be, but I'd hate ever to be an obstacle in the way of you getting to where you want to get, my friend! :-) This is a seriously well written article - your passion oozes from every word!

I agree with pretty much everything you write. I'd like to add to the first point where you talk about desire to succeed. In my experience a critical part of this is getting clear about what success means for me in terms of values - both my desired goal and how I want to achieve it.

I'd add 2 questions to ask myself at this early stage

On my path to success AND when I achieve it:

1 what deeper values will I be serving?
2 are there any deeper values that I will not be serving?

The answers to these questions will help me check that both my target and my path are really serving me and not just fuelling a hungry ego.

For example, my desire to date women might come from an ego need to get laid to prove to myself that I'm desirable. Then the way I go about it might include lying, to impress the girl (not serving my values around honesty and integrity). On the other hand my goal might come from a deeper place serving my needs for intimacy, openness and physical pleasure. It's likely then that I will be completely authentic and honest on my path.

When I'm clear and aligned with my values it's less likely that I'll ever need to use overwhelming force as things come to me more easily. And if I do use force, then I'm less likely to do any damage because I'm clear how it's serving life.

Thanks for the stimulation, as always!

Ian

Btw .. have you found the girl of your dreams yet?

Hi Rahul. Thanks for sharing your success formula. What you say really helps.

However, I have to disagree with you on point number 1.
Burning desire does help in challenges. It's a powerful fuel, no doubt about it.
But it's NOT an important factor in facing challenge.
There are many people who face challenges without burning desire like a cool cucumber, with their knowledge, wisdom, experience, or resources.

I give you 2 examples to illustrate my points

1) A dude aims to be financially free in 5 years time in difficult economy, which is a challenge. He calmly analyse his investing sstrategy and invest consistantly with dollar cost averaging.
Without much burning fire in his heart to reach financial freedom, he succeeded after years of being cool and calm in his investment.

2) A guy who want to shred pounds off his body and become a marathon runner just join his friends in running sessions without much expectation. he just do it consistantly for fun and reached his dream

Burning desirre? Yes, it helps. It's powerful
Is it important? No. It's optional

just sharing my view.
See ya soon my friend :)
